Sustainability as a Guiding Principle
Sisterly Tribe was born from a vision to create a sustainable and ethical yoga brand for women, by women, that feels great for body, mind, spirit, and the planet. We want to be part of setting a new sustainable & ethical standard in the fashion & activewear industry & sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
We understand that producing new items is in its essence not 100% sustainable, however, we want to offer a more sustainable alternative. We are committed to continuously learn, adapt, innovate and simply become better at making responsible choices.
Below you will find some of the areas that we are working on:
Slow & Mindful Design and Production
The most sustainable garment is one that is loved and worn for a long period of time. Therefore we strive to design timeless pieces that stand the test of time both in terms of design as well as quality. We have no seasonal collections and each garment is envisioned to stay relevant for years to come, which we hope will contribute to a more sustainable approach to consumption.
We believe in slow and conscious craftsmanship, creating our collections in small, mindful batches to minimize waste and all our products are produced in an ethical way.
Human First Approach
From day one, our vision was for each unique garment to empower both those who wear them and those that make them – and that means focusing as much on the people that produce the garment as the garments themselves
This means that we only work with companies that share the same values as us. Our manufacturer treats their employees well, pay them over the minimum wage, and offers company-wide health insurance for their employees and their families. They also support local charities with essential commodities.
Choice of Materials
We are committed to minimizing our footprint by using materials that have a lower impact on the environment and promote better manufacturing and recycling practices. We only use natural, organic, regenerated, or recycled fibers in our garments.
The fabric we use for our yoga wear is a premium fabric made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles giving new life to waste otherwise polluting our planet. Any leftover fabric scraps from production are donated to local female charity groups who re-work them into mats, dolls, toys etc for resale.
Our sweats and t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton.
We try to avoid plastic as much as possible in our packaging and are constantly looking for ways to improve in this area. Our orders are shipped in eco-friendly FSC-certified mailer bags and the product packaging for our yoga wear is compostable.
